Renovation of Mobile Toilets in Chaohu Community

Admin October 03, 2026

The renovation of mobile toilets in Chaohu Community focuses on enhancing the comfort and safety of residents' toilet use, incorporating multiple age-friendly designs and intelligent convenience facilities.

In terms of age-friendly renovations, Chaohu Community has made targeted optimizations to meet the needs of the elderly. Traditional squat toilets have been replaced with sit-down toilets to reduce the physical strain on the elderly caused by prolonged squatting; the height of the steps for squatting positions has been lowered by about 10 centimeters to further reduce the risk of falls during toilet use and improve mobility. These designs directly respond to the characteristics of physiological decline in the elderly population, embodying a people-centered renovation philosophy.

At the level of intelligent and convenience service upgrades, the Chaohu City Environmental Sanitation Department has coordinated the management of 113 public toilets directly under its jurisdiction in the urban area and selected 20 of them as key improvement targets. The renovation covers multiple dimensions:

  • Intelligent basic services: Face recognition paper dispensers have been introduced, enabling contactless paper dispensing through biometric technology, which is both hygienic and prevents resource waste; mobile phone charging stations have been added to meet residents' emergency charging needs in public places; and WiFi coverage has been implemented to enhance the information service level of public toilets.
  • Humanized detail services: Automatic shoe polishers have been installed to provide residents with convenient shoe cleaning services; and emergency umbrellas have been provided to address travel difficulties during sudden weather changes. These facilities serve the "big picture" of people's livelihoods through "small interventions," significantly improving residents' satisfaction.

In addition, the renovation project has been deeply integrated with the practical activity of "I Do Practical Things for the People." By continuously optimizing public toilet functions, it promotes the transformation of public services from "meeting basic needs" to "enhancing experience quality." For example, some public toilets have also added barrier-free access and handrails to further strengthen care for the disabled.

Overall, the renovation of mobile toilets in Chaohu Community not only addresses the issues of outdated facilities and limited functionality in traditional public toilets but also constructs a safer, more comfortable, and convenient public toilet environment through the integration of age-friendly designs and intelligent services. This practice provides a replicable model for the upgrading of urban public service facilities and demonstrates the governance wisdom that "details determine success" in people's livelihood projects.
