Can the Toilet Pit Be Moved?

Admin October 09, 2026

The toilet pit can be moved, but there are certain limitations and precautions to consider. Details are as follows:

For squat toilets, changing their position or orientation typically requires reinstalling the drainage piping system to ensure proper drainage function. This process may involve modifying, extending, or replacing existing pipes, which can be labor-intensive and may require professional assistance. Even if the squat toilet is successfully relocated and connected to the existing sewage pipe, blockages may still occur. Therefore, necessary safety precautions must be taken, such as regular maintenance, periodic inspections, and cleaning to ensure smooth drainage.

For toilet pits, there are more diverse methods of relocation, but each has its applicable conditions and limitations:

  • Using a toilet offset flange: Suitable for short-distance relocation, but it increases bends in the sewage pipe, which may affect flushing performance and increase the risk of blockages. Therefore, the relocation distance should preferably not exceed 100mm to ensure smooth flushing.
  • Raising the floor: Suitable for situations where the relocation distance is relatively long or the bathroom floor allows for raising. New sewage pipes need to be laid beneath the floor and connected to the original drain outlet. The height of the raise depends on the relocation distance and pipe slope. Additionally, waterproofing treatment must be redone to prevent leakage.
  • Drilling new holes or chiseling: Suitable for situations requiring significant relocation of the toilet position. However, this method may damage the bathroom's waterproof layer and structural safety, so it should be carried out with caution and in consultation with neighbors downstairs to ensure construction safety.
  • Adopting a wall-mounted toilet: The sewage pipe is hidden within the wall, and the toilet position can be adjusted by changing the position of the pipes within the wall. This involves significant modification but results in an aesthetically pleasing and easy-to-clean finish. However, this method requires professional installation to ensure construction quality.

When relocating a toilet pit, it is also important to ensure that the new position aligns with the overall layout and usage habits of the bathroom, protecting the waterproof layer and structural safety. After relocation, waterproofing treatment must be redone, and a closed-water test conducted to verify the waterproofing effect. Additionally, high-quality products and materials should be selected, and professional installation should be carried out to ensure the quality and safety of the relocation.
