Can Dog Toilet Be Moved Freely?

Admin October 13, 2026

Dog toilets cannot be moved freely, but they can be gradually relocated under specific conditions.

Disadvantages of Freely Moving

When a dog has not yet learned to use a dog toilet, freely changing its toilet location, such as placing it in the living room today and moving it to the balcony tomorrow, will leave the dog without a fixed excretion spot. Since dogs require a certain amount of time and stability to form memories and habits, such frequent and irregular location changes will make it difficult for the dog to remember where it can excrete. As a result, the dog will never remember the correct excretion location, making it unable to effectively learn to use the dog toilet and increasing the difficulty and time cost of training.

Conditions and Methods for Moving

Once a dog knows to use the dog toilet, the toilet can be relocated, but certain principles and methods must be followed.

  • Gradual Movement: Do not move the dog toilet to a distant location all at once. Instead, slowly move the pee pad or toilet 10 - 15 centimeters each day. Such gradual movement allows the dog to unconsciously adapt to the change in location without becoming confused or resistant due to a sudden change.
  • Clean Up the Original Odor: When moving the dog toilet, promptly clean up the odor at the original location. Dogs usually rely on odor to identify and locate excretion spots. If the odor of excrement remains at the original location, the dog may mistakenly think that it is still an appropriate excretion spot, affecting its acceptance of the new location.
  • Small Environmental Differences: The new environment should not differ significantly from the original one, such as in terms of floor type and height. Large environmental differences may make the dog feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable, increasing the difficulty of accepting the new location.
  • Provide a Comfortable Environment: Provide the dog with a spacious and comfortable environment for defecation and urination. At the same time, maintain consistency throughout the moving process. Do not force or threaten the dog to excrete at the new location, as this may cause the dog to feel fear and resistance, hindering its adaptation to the new 'bathroom'.
