Can Container Houses Be Purchased?
Admin September 17, 2026
Whether container houses can be purchased depends on the situation. They can be bought if the conditions are met and operations are carried out cautiously, but there are many restrictions and risks.

Legality Aspect
- As temporary buildings: If container houses are used as temporary buildings and have been approved by relevant departments in accordance with local regulations, they can be purchased. Temporary buildings usually have requirements such as usage periods. Within the scope permitted by the approval, purchasing and using container houses for temporary living, office, and other purposes is legal.
- In line with homestead and rural planning: In rural areas, if the construction of container houses complies with homestead regulations and rural planning and has gone through the approval process, purchasing them in this case is also feasible. This means meeting requirements such as the area and location of the homestead while conforming to the overall construction planning layout of the village.
- Without changing land use or going through conversion procedures: If the original land use for constructing container houses is allowed, or if the approval procedures for converting agricultural land to construction land have been completed and construction is carried out after the conversion, purchasing container houses for legal construction is also possible. Conversely, if construction is carried out without approval or the original land use is changed, for example, building container houses on farmland, this is illegal. Not only can they not be purchased, but they may also face penalties such as demolition.
Purchase Risk Aspect
- Industry fraud traps: There are some undesirable phenomena in the container house rental and sales industry, such as low-price lures, selling old as new, and full-payment prepayments as fraud traps. Some merchants may attract consumers with extremely low prices, but in fact, the quality of the container houses they provide is very poor or there are safety hazards. Some merchants will refurbish old container houses and sell them as new ones to deceive consumers. In addition, requiring consumers to make full payments in advance also poses a great risk and may result in consumers losing their money. Therefore, when purchasing container houses, be sure to choose regular merchants, carefully check the quality of the houses and relevant certificates, and pay cautiously.
