Can Container Houses Achieve Grade A Fire Rating?

Admin September 17, 2026

Container houses can achieve Grade A fire resistance standards.

According to China's GB8624-2012 'Classification of Burning Behavior of Building Materials and Products' standard, achieving Grade A fire resistance requires meeting a series of stringent conditions. In terms of the main structure, a steel frame combined with inorganic insulation materials such as rock wool and glass wool is necessary. These inorganic insulation materials have a Grade A burning performance, laying the foundation for the fire resistance of the house. At the same time, the inner and outer wall panels should be metal-faced composite panels with a core material that must be Grade A, ensuring fire safety from the wall structure. Additionally, all joints should be treated with fire-resistant sealants to prevent the spread of fire through gaps in the event of a fire; electrical wiring should be run through metal conduits and covered with fire-resistant materials to reduce the risk of electrical fires causing larger fires.

Domestically compliant container mobile homes strictly adhere to building fire safety regulations. For temporary residential and office container houses, their wall, roof, and partition panels must meet the Grade A non-combustible fire resistance rating, which is a mandatory standard for construction site fire safety inspections. The core materials of qualified fire-resistant container houses are Grade A rock wool and glass wool sandwich panels with a fire resistance limit of no less than 30 minutes, providing valuable time for personnel evacuation and firefighting in the event of a fire. After fire-resistant coating treatment, the steel structural frame has good flame-retardant and heat-insulating properties, effectively preventing fire damage to the frame structure and ensuring the overall stability of the house.

Actual cases also prove that container houses can achieve Grade A fire resistance standards. Beijing Falilai's residential container houses adopt a fully welded structure with Grade A fire resistance performance, meeting Grade A fire resistance requirements in both structural design and material selection. Henan Tianfeng Group's developed Grade A fire-resistant prefabricated container-type mobile panel houses use 50mm or 75mm thick Tianfeng rock wool (PU-edged) or polyurethane sandwich panels for the inner and outer walls, complying with Grade A fire resistance requirements and achieving good fire resistance effects through reasonable wall construction and material selection.
