Camping Portable Toilet Usage Guide
Admin October 22, 2026
The usage guide for camping portable toilets can be divided into the following types based on different models:

I. Portable Movable Toilets
- Installation and Removal: Secure the toilet in a stable position and complete the installation using the buckles. To remove, simply press the buckles to detach the components for easy cleaning or storage.
- Flushing Operation: Pre-fill the toilet with water and use gravity or a simple flushing mechanism to achieve flushing, ensuring waste smoothly enters the black water tank.
- Waste Disposal: After use, press the buckles to remove the black water tank and dispose of the waste at designated locations (such as public toilets or waste disposal areas) to avoid environmental pollution.
II. Thetford Portable Toilets
- Tank Preparation: Pour 100 milliliters of cleaning solution into the fresh water tank and fill it with water. For the waste water tank, add 150 milliliters of degradation solution and a small amount of water to decompose waste and suppress odors.
- Flushing Method: Features a push-button flushing design, which is simple to operate and water-saving, suitable for camping scenarios.
- Post-Use Handling: Waste is decomposed by the degradation solution in the black water tank, leaving no odor. After camping, dispose of the waste water into a sewer or toilet and thoroughly rinse the tank with clean water to prevent bacterial growth.
III. Simple Folding Toilets
- Hygiene Isolation: Use a black garbage bag to cover the inside of the toilet, creating a physical barrier to prevent direct contact between waste and the toilet structure.
- Deodorization: Pour an appropriate amount of cat litter to utilize its water absorption and deodorization properties to maintain a clean environment.
- Usage and Cleaning: After using the toilet, wipe private areas with wet wipes, tightly tie the used garbage bag, and replace it with a new one. Place the old garbage bag in an external garbage bag and dispose of it at a waste disposal site.
IV. The “Cat Hole” Method for Leave-No-Trace Camping
- Site Selection Requirements: Choose a flat area at least 60 meters away from the campsite, trails, and water sources, ensuring sunlight exposure to accelerate decomposition and avoiding densely vegetated areas to minimize ecological damage.
- Digging Specifications: Use a lightweight shovel to dig a hole 15-20 centimeters deep and about 15 centimeters in diameter, ensuring the depth is sufficient to cover waste.
- Filling and Restoration: After use, fill the hole with soil and fallen leaves to restore the ground surface as much as possible, avoiding leaving obvious traces.
Precautions:
- All types of toilets must be kept away from water sources to prevent pollution.
- Waste water from portable toilets must be disposed of according to local regulations and not poured randomly.
- When using biological degradation solutions, follow the product instructions to avoid excessive use.
