Beijing Public Portable Toilets

Admin September 28, 2026

Beijing's public portable toilets mainly include two forms: modular mobile public toilets and rental of mobile restrooms, characterized by flexible deployment, diverse functions, and advanced technology.

Modular Mobile Public Toilets

Beijing has practical examples of modular mobile public toilets, such as those in the park north of Mingguang Bridge in Haidian District. These toilets fully consider accessibility needs in their design, with gently sloping ramps and installed handrails outside to facilitate use by individuals with mobility impairments. The accessible toilet stalls are equipped with child-sized toilets, baby changing stations, safety handrails, and emergency call devices, providing convenience for parents with children and individuals with special needs. This design reflects humanistic care and enhances the service quality of public toilets.

Rental of Mobile Restrooms

Beijing promotes the rental of mobile restrooms, introducing "dynamic sanitation nodes" into urban public spaces. This model allows for flexible deployment and rapid removal based on actual needs, breaking through the rigid constraints of traditional infrastructure and shifting sanitation services from "fixed-point coverage" to "on-demand response." For example, at large events or temporary construction sites, the location and quantity of restrooms can be adjusted in a timely manner according to pedestrian flow, improving resource utilization efficiency.

Technical Features

Mobile restrooms are integrated from multiple subsystems. The high-quality layer serves as the core sanitation function, featuring vacuum toilet systems, biodegradation technology, or chemical agent circulation systems that effectively treat waste and reduce environmental pollution. The second layer is the environmental control module, including ventilation systems and lighting devices, providing a comfortable environment for users. The third layer is the operation and maintenance support network, encompassing sewage recovery vehicles, ensuring the normal operation and maintenance of the restrooms. They adopt a modular design, with individual units measuring approximately 2-4 cubic meters, compatible with standard freight trucks for transportation. The bottom is equipped with adjustable legs, and some models feature a folding structure, reducing transportation volume by 60% for easy transport and installation. In terms of water-saving and waste disposal technology, the vacuum system requires only 0.5-1 liter of water per flush, while the foaming system achieves a water-saving rate of over 90%. In water-scarce areas, dry biological toilets can be chosen, offering significant water-saving advantages.
