Portable Toilets in Beijing Lockdown Areas

Admin October 11, 2026

Portable toilets in Beijing lockdown areas are primarily used to meet residents' daily needs and cut off the transmission chain of public toilets.

I. Deployment Situation

Multiple lockdown areas in Beijing have reasonably planned and set up portable toilets based on actual needs. For example, the Dongcheng District has built more than 30 temporary portable toilets in and around lockdown areas, with specific distributions including two additional toilets at the east entrance of Houyongkang Hutong, 12 toilets in the alleys around Minwang Community, two toilets set up for ground-floor businesses on Minwang South Hutong, and 11 toilets installed around Beixinqiao Yushu Hutong. During the lockdown period, Gaobeidian Township in Chaoyang District also coordinated the delivery of a batch of portable toilets to meet residents' toilet needs.

II. Technical Characteristics

These portable toilets are free from the constraints of fixed piping networks and adopt a modular structure, enabling rapid deployment in idle open spaces, inside construction fences, and other areas. They utilize technologies such as biodegradation and physicochemical treatment to achieve in-situ treatment or temporary storage of excreta, which is both environmentally friendly and efficient. This design allows the portable toilets to be put into use in a short time and effectively respond to the special needs within lockdown areas.

III. Management Measures

To ensure the hygiene and safety of the portable toilets, relevant departments have implemented a series of strict management measures. For instance, Gaobeidian Township in Chaoyang District has implemented measures of "disinfection after each use" and "disinfection for each person", and the headquarters has assigned personnel to be on duty 24 hours a day to ensure the effective execution of toilet cleaning and disinfection work. The Dongcheng District has also equipped temporary toilets with cleaning staff, with a gender ratio, who receive pre-job protective training and professional disinfection training. Their work procedures include immediate flushing of the toilet pits, wiping the floors, and disinfecting key areas to ensure the toilet hygiene meets standards.

IV. Role and Significance

The deployment and management of portable toilets in Beijing lockdown areas not only effectively meet residents' toilet needs but also cut off the transmission chain of public toilets, reducing the risk of epidemic transmission. Their rapid deployment and efficient management provide strong support for epidemic prevention and control work in lockdown areas.
