Mobile Toilets During Beijing's Epidemic

Admin September 21, 2026

During the epidemic in Beijing, mobile toilets played a crucial role in alleviating toilet pressure, resolving residents' toilet difficulties, and reducing the risk of cross-infection.

I. Alleviating Toilet Pressure at COVID-19 Testing Sites
During the epidemic, COVID-19 testing sites were densely populated, leading to a significant increase in toilet demand. To alleviate this pressure, the Fengtai District Urban Management Commission urgently provided 96 emergency mobile toilets to various townships and streets. For the over 1,200 residents in the locked-down Majialou bungalow area, the commission even provided 61 mobile toilets overnight. These mobile toilets, resembling large refrigerators with blue exteriors, not only offer good isolation to effectively prevent cross-contact between individuals but are also regularly and thoroughly disinfected by cleaning staff to ensure cleanliness and odor-free conditions. They provided strong support for the smooth conduct of COVID-19 testing work and were widely welcomed.

II. Resolving Toilet Difficulties for Residents in Locked-Down Areas
In bungalow areas where each household lacks an independent toilet, once locked down, the issue of "how to use the toilet" became a top priority for resolution. Beixinqiao Street set up seven temporary public toilets, all of which were staffed with cleaning personnel implementing a one-person-one-disinfection system. After residents used the toilets, cleaning staff promptly disinfected them to ensure hygiene and safety, effectively resolving the toilet problem for residents in locked-down areas and safeguarding their normal lives.

III. Reducing the Risk of Cross-Infection
Over a hundred epidemic-prevention smart and environmentally friendly mobile toilets were deployed near the venues of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. These mobile toilets feature a fully contactless design, equipped with bilingual (Chinese and English) voice prompts and barrier-free facilities to cater to different user groups. After a user leaves, the toilet automatically flushes, and internal atomizing disinfection nozzles automatically disinfect the entire space, effectively reducing the risk of cross-infection. Additionally, they are equipped with emergency buttons and intelligent distress call systems to provide strong safety guarantees for users, playing a significant role during the epidemic prevention and control period.
