Barrier-Free Mobile Toilet Specifications

Admin October 07, 2026

The specifications for barrier-free mobile toilets are as follows:

1. Area and Spatial Layout
The standard area of a barrier-free mobile toilet should be no less than 4 square meters to ensure sufficient turning space for wheelchair users. Inside, a wheelchair turning area with a diameter of no less than 1.50 meters should be reserved, which is a fundamental condition for ensuring the safe operation of users. The minimum dimensions for the toilet compartment are 1.8 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width, but it is recommended to extend the length to 2 meters to enhance comfort.

2. Door Design Specifications
The clear opening width of the door should be ≥ 800 mm. Outward-opening or electric sliding door designs are preferred, and electric doors must have anti-pinch functionality. If an inward-opening door is used, the following conditions must be met:

  • Reserve a wheelchair turning area with a diameter of ≥ 1.50 meters;
  • Install a horizontal grab bar at a height of 900 mm on the outside of the door for easy gripping;
  • Set up a door-closing handle and an emergency latch on the inside of the door to ensure manual opening in emergencies.

3. Safety Grab Bar System
Safety grab bars are divided into horizontal grab bars and L-shaped grab bars:

  • Horizontal Grab Bar: Positioned 250 mm - 350 mm above the toilet seat, with a length of ≥ 700 mm. The side near the wheelchair should be rotatable to facilitate users in adjusting their posture;
  • L-Shaped Grab Bar: The horizontal part has the same length as the horizontal grab bar, and the vertical part is located 150 mm - 250 mm in front of the toilet seat, with the top at a height of 1.40 m - 1.60 m from the ground, providing support for standing up or transferring.

4. Supporting Facility Standards

  • Toilet Seat Height: Should be controlled between 400 mm - 450 mm to facilitate transfer for wheelchair users;
  • Flush Device: Should support one-handed operation or automatic sensing to avoid complex operations;
  • Toilet Paper Dispenser: Should be installed at a height of 150 mm - 450 mm above the toilet seat for easy access;
  • Emergency Call Device: Should be at a height of 400 mm - 500 mm from the ground and support triggering in a fallen state to ensure timely assistance in emergencies.

These specifications integrate spatial, safety, and convenience requirements, aiming to provide a barrier-free usage environment for special groups such as disabled individuals and the elderly, in line with relevant design standards and humanized needs.
