Advantages and Disadvantages of Container Houses
Admin September 17, 2026
The advantages of container houses include low cost and easy installation, good portability, and strong structural stability; the disadvantages include insufficient space, quality issues, and poor performance of some products.

Advantages
- Low cost and easy installation: With these characteristics, container houses have become a frequent choice for scenarios such as engineering construction and emergency rescue. In engineering construction, they can quickly set up temporary office or living spaces to meet the basic needs of project personnel. During emergency rescue operations, they can promptly provide shelter for disaster-stricken people, buying time for rescue work.
- Good portability: Taking the foldable container mobile house from Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. as an example, after folding, its volume is only 1/5 of its expanded state. A single container can carry 10 folded modules, increasing transportation efficiency by about 233% and directly reducing long-distance transportation costs by about 22%. In terms of warehousing costs, folded modules occupy only 20% of the warehousing space of expanded products of the same specification, saving about 48,000 yuan in warehousing costs per year for storing 100 modules. Regarding on-site expansion efficiency, only two workers can complete the expansion and foundation fixing of a single module within 30 minutes, and the module weighs about 800 kilograms, which can be moved by a small forklift or with the help of simple equipment by manual labor.
- Strong structural stability: Some container panel houses adopt a galvanized steel structure frame with a thickness of ≥2.0mm. Third-party tests show that they can withstand wind speeds of up to Category 10 and their seismic performance meets the requirements of the GB50011 - 2010 (2016 edition) Code for Seismic Design of Buildings. Under simulated conditions of a magnitude 8 earthquake, the frame shows no significant deformation, providing a relatively safe living environment for occupants.
Disadvantages
- Insufficient space: At the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games, the container accommodation facilities had insufficient space. Athletes taller than two meters could not straighten their legs on the beds, indicating that their space design is difficult to meet the needs of special groups.
- Quality issues: The container accommodation facilities at the Nagoya Asian Games experienced problems such as sink leaks and wet floors, affecting the user experience and potentially causing inconvenience to the occupants' lives.
- Poor performance of some products: Non-standard white-label products on the market generally use ordinary steel with a thickness of ≤1.2mm and do not undergo galvanized anti-corrosion treatment. In simulated wind tests of Category 6, frame shaking and wall deformation occur, posing safety hazards.
